The water in Majorca
For the first time in more than 40 years, a great white shark has been recorded swimming off the Spanish Mediterranean island of Majorca.

A wildlife conservation group captured footage of the shark wandering around the Cabrera archipelago.

The last confirmed sighting of such a fish in the Balearic Islands was by a fisherman in 1976.

Great whites can weigh up to two tonnes, grow to lengths of 20ft (6m) and reach speeds of 64km/h (40mph).

Re: The water in Majorca
My first lads holiday abroad back in the 70s was in the delights of Palma Nova. We were in the cheaper end of the strip back then Magaluf being the posh bit, we came back from the beach to the hotel and there were ambulances and police outside and lots of people milling around in towel robes holding tooth brushes. We asked what was going on and someone said the hotel being built on a hill with raised pool terrace had collapsed and people lying on their sun beds had fallen 30 ft into water below with debri falling down onto them. Thy used to salt water from the sea to mix the cement apparently the salt would corrode the metal reinforcement. When we got to our room there was no water for the whole second week, they said every was having to wash in the swimming pool, which explained everyone walking around in bathrobes holding bars of imperial leather. Nice and no compo back then even though it reached the daily mail unless you were wheelchair bound or such like, just a shrug of the shoulders and a pat on the back for your troubles.

I envy sharks - no need for shark dentists, with a conveyor belt of new teeth working throughout their lives.

Great white sharks are found from Alaska through the equator to the waters south of Tierra del Fuego.

If they are rare or very rare in certain waters like those off Majorca or or the UK, it's not because of the temperature, as they are found in both warmer and colder waters.

The briefest of visits to Wiki confirms this.

Mallorca is fucking lovely.
Head west out of the huge Palma airport and follow the coast road along the west coast.I was fortunate enough to do it on a yacht once,a beautiful part of the world.

Youre so clever surface, proving the world's scientists wrong yet again. Have you let them know?'

I'm pretty sure that they will have an explanation. Pacific Warm Blob, isn't it?

Waters around Cabrera are a national park - no fishing so a rich habitat with plenty of prey. Good news.

What's all the fuss about? It's merely a big, toothy fish.

I thought this was going to be a thread about Leicester City fans and their only example of banter when they play a London based team...
